Let go of the Past and Embrace the Present

This quote is about letting go of the past and focusing on today. I can tell you first hand that way too many people get too hung about things that have already happened. The truth is you cannot change the past. You can learn from it, and you can grow from it, but you can never change it. There is no good in holding onto things or letting things that cannot be changed weigh you down. Whenever bad things happen to you or you make a mistake, you just have to put it in a positive light and figure out what can be done differently to make the situation better next time.

I know this first-hand, because I suffer from a condition called fibromyalgia. This is a chronic condition that causes widespread of pain through my entire body. Naturally, I was upset as anyone would be, when I was diagnosed with the condition. The thought of living the rest of your life in chronic pain is not really something anyone wants to think about. I chose to move on and continue to make music to uplift not only myself but other people as well. I have found ways to enjoy music, even if going on tour is no longer in my deck of cards, by being mindful and embracing the present.

Now, you can take the easy way out and just give up when life gets hard if you want. But, you do not want to be that kind of person. One chapter of your life ends and new one begins. That is just the beautiful part of life. You are always changing and growing. For example, if you trip and fall you cannot lie in the ground and be upset that you fell down. You need to get up, brush yourself off, and laugh about it. Your life can be whatever you want to be. You are the driver.

Wake up every day with a bright smile on your face and embrace everything and anything that life has in store for you. But how do you do that? How to achieve mindfulness and be present completely and fully? Here are some steps:

1) Be observant. Pay attention to all the little things and ordinary things that go on around you. The world is beautiful. I will tell you that nothing kills the mood of a room faster than someone who is thinking negatively and looking down on everything. You have to realize the way you think and feel effects more than just you. What I think everyone needs to do is find ways to be mindful and happy of the world around them.

2) Do yoga and meditate. They have always worked for me. When you are meditating or doing yoga, it is like the entire world around you stops. Time just stands still. You have nothing to worry about and nothing to think about. You can strengthen both your mind and your happiness by slowing down, taking a few breaths, and just relaxing.

3) Get quality sleep and eat healthy. A lot of people underestimate the importance of taking care of themselves. It is very easy to forget about how much sleep you are supposed to be getting every night when you are a busy person with lots of obligations. It is also easy to forget to eat three well balanced meals and two healthy snacks every day. I’ve had a lot of people tell me that they just never have time to eat that many times in one day. In order to be mindful, happy, and healthy, you have to learn to find time. You have to make time to eat healthily and get enough quality sleep. It is your life and you should be in control of it.

4) Take breaks and just relax. The unfortunate truth is that there are so many people in this world that are just focused on continuing to move all the time that they never slow down, take a break, and enjoy the scenery. What is the point of living and working if you do not stop and enjoy the scenery every once in a while? You have to find a way to balance working and enjoying life in order to be truly happy. Take some of that money that you’ve worked hard to earn and treat yourself to a massage or a spa treatment. You could also go see a movie or go out somewhere nice to eat. It is important to find a balance in your life and dedicate some time to you.

Now, obviously I cannot tell you how you should be living your life. After all, I’m not a life coach. I’m just hoping that I would inspire someone by sharing my story. There is no reason for you to dwell on the past or things that you are not able to change. Your life is whatever you want it to be. If there is something out there that you want to do or what to achieve, there is no reason why you cannot make that happen. Never let anything stop you from achieving your dreams. Remember to slow down and relax every once and a while.

Lastly, make sure you approach each and every day of your life with a smile. Positive energy and thoughts is largely the key to having a positive day. In my experience, positive energies and calmness that come from you tend to affect those around you as well; in fact they are contagious.
